What is the merit formula and how do calculate final aggregate marks to get admission to medical college?
University of health sciences Lahore (UHS) has declared the formula to calculate final aggregate marks by using marks percentage of SSC, HSSC and entry test marks.
Merit formula to get final aggregate marks.
(i) Marks percentage criteria
The merit shall be worked out as per the regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and shall be based on the aggregate percentage of the candidates worked out by adding the marks in the following ratio.
- Matriculation (SSC or Equivalent) – 10%
- HSSC/F.Sc (only science subjects) – 40%
- Entrance Test – 50%
(ii) The merit formula calculation is as follows
The above-mentioned percentage can be understood by applying the following assumed marks.
Marks obtained in SSC (Matriculation) = 1090/1100
Marks obtained in HSSC (FSc only science subjects)
Biology = 190/200
Chemistry = 192/200
Physics = 194/200
Total = 576/600
Marks obtained in MDCAT = 170/210
Now calculate the final aggregate marks.
10% of SSC (Matriculation) = 1090/1100 x 1100 x 0.10 => 109
40% of HSSC (FSc only science subjects) = 576/600 x1100 x 0.40 => 422.4
50% of MDCAT = 170/210 x 1100 x 0.50 => 445.2380
Now Aggregate Percentage = (109 + 422.4 + 445.23)/1100 x 100
= 88.7845 %
These are final marks percentage but if adding the credit of Hifz-Quran = 0.7273 + 88.7845
Now new final is as follows. = 89.5118%
Note: Final calculation in percentage will be rounded up to four decimal points. No marks will be deducted for extra attempts availed in HSSC/equivalent examination by the candidate beyond the period two years after passing SSC/matriculation annual examination
